Willie James Bess, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. Born on April 1, 1953, to Ida Morrison and the late James Bess, Willie was raised with strong values rooted in family, hard work, and service to others.
He graduated from Miami Palmetto Senior High School, where he discovered a talent for working with his hands and a heart for helping others. After graduation, Willie enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country with honor.
Following his military service, he attended South Dade Skills Center, where he trained in air conditioning, refrigeration, and an electrician. Known throughout his community for his expertise and generosity, Willie often helped anyone in need—earning him deep respect and lasting friendships.
In 1984, Willie married the love of his life, Darrow "Del". Together, they raised four children. Willie was also the proud father of a daughter born before his marriage. He was a dedicated family man who took great pride in his children and their accomplishments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Del; his children: Conception Dantzle, Latawun Bess, LaQuaine Bess (Irene), Justin Bess (Kylah), and Ganerra Bess; his siblings: Althea Bess, Sandra Smith, Roslyn Bess, Ronald Bess (Vernado), Rosemary Bess, and Eileen Lee; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five siblings: Larry Bess, Tony Bess, Gene Bess, Almeter Wilson, and Ralph Bess, as well as one grandchild, Cedrick Dantzle. He also leaves behind an uncle, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Willie’s legacy of love, compassion, and service will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
