MARY BRYANT Obituary

Mary Lynn Bryant, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Mer-Land”, was born on November 22, 1961, in Miami, Florida. She was the first born and only daughter born to the union of the late Richard “RED” Bryant and Deaconess Bessie Mae Bryant. Mary Lynn loved both of her parents but she was truly a “daddy’s girl” and to this she honored him by naming her first born and only son, the late, Richard Dwayne Bryant after his grandfather.

Mary Lynn received her early childhood education within the Miami-Dade County Public School System. She attended Frances S. Tucker, Ponce De Leon, Coral Gables High School, Cope South and Lindsey Hopkins.

Mary Lynn was reared within a strong family of believers and accepted Christ as her Lord and personal savior at an early age. She was later baptized and joined Greater Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church under the late, Rev. J.L. Sanders. Despite some time away from the church Mary reestablished her fellowship and her commitment to Christ by returning to Greater Sweetfield Baptist Church under the leadership of her baby brother, Rev. Michael G. Bryant in 2022 where she was a faithful member who served the ministry even when her health began to diminish. Mary loved the Lord and all of His people. She was faithful in attending Sunday School, Bible Study, serving in the Women’s Ministry, Community Outreach Ministry, Hospitality and an honorary servant of the administrative staff.

Mary Lynn held a number of jobs as a young adult at various restaurants, The Goodwill Store, a pool technician assistant and a seasonal poll worker for Miami-Dade, County. Due to underlying health issues, she was no longer able to work full-time.

Mary Lynn was known for her charismatic personality and loud entrances. Whenever, she would arrive to an event, a party or simply greeting you it was often with much excitement and pure joy. She was truly a woman with a good heart. Although she was not financially wealthy, she was rich in her heart and love for people because she was going to find something to gift you even if she had to ask someone else to gift it on her behalf. There are (2) family traits that she definitely inherited and that is being a giver and a great cook. Just to name a few of the favorite meals that her children and grandchildren will miss include her oxtails, baked turkey wings, string beans and grilled cheese sandwiches. She would find ways to contribute positively in any way that she could whether it was offering you a plate of food, babysitting house cleaning, braiding hair or running errands for neighbors. This demonstrated her willingness to help others even if she had to charge a tariff. Mary Lynn had a remarkable ability to remember other people’s birthdays, often going out of her way to acknowledge these special days, which reflected her caring nature. Her enthusiasm for staying connected sometimes lead to her calling quite frequently and continuing to call until she gets an answer but this was one way she expressed how much she valued her family, friends and relationships.

To each of us there is a season and on Friday morning, May 16, 2025 the sunset on Mary Lynn’s journey as she answered Heaven’s call and departed this life. She was summoned to eternal rest, leaving the cares, troubles and pains of this world behind. She will always be in our hearts for the great memories of laughter, kindness, shared meals and her witty and charismatic speech. She is preceded in death by her loving parents and her first born son Richard Dwayne Bryant.
