John Thomas Troutman, beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully completed his earthly journey on May 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and the comfort of God’s grace. He was 83 years old.
Born on January 9, 1942, in Fort Valley, Georgia, John was one of the cherished son of the late Marie and JC Troutman. He was one of eight siblings and shared a special bond with each of them: Nancy Fields (GA), Hattie Mosgrove, Equilla Patterson (Johnny Patterson), Odessa Troutman, and John Davis Troutman. He was preceded in death by three beloved siblings: Agnes Wells, Louise Brown, and CV Troutman.
John’s early years were rooted in hard work, and a deep appreciation for education. He began his schooling at Arthur & Polly Mays before continuing at Carver High School in Coconut Grove, where he proudly graduated. His commitment to learning led him to further his education at Miami-Dade College, where he laid the groundwork for a life of service.
For 35 years, John dedicated himself to the Miami-Dade County Public School System as a Special Education Physical Education coach. In this role, he touched countless lives with his quiet strength, compassionate spirit, and deep sense of purpose. He was known for his gentle demeanor, charismatic presence, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of his students.
John was a man of many passions. He had a lifelong love of music and was an accomplished drummer who formed and played in his own band. He found joy in travel, staying current with the news, and cheering for his favorite sports teams. He also had a soft spot for good conversation and was known for his warm smile, quick wit, and deep appreciation for the people in his life. Those who knew him well will always remember his reserved charm, subtle humor, and love for women, sports, and soulful melodies.
Above all, John’s greatest legacy is the family he leaves behind. He was a proud father to Wendy Polite, Sandy Hickson, Reggie Troutman, Ronald Morrant, Len Postell, Angelic Philon (Travis Philon), and Joneisha Troutman. He was preceded in death by two sons, Donnell Morrant and Steven Hickson. John’s love for his extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Though he endured many health challenges in his later years, John faced each one with courage, faith, and grace. His strength and resilience were a testament to his character and his deep belief in God’s will.
As we say goodbye , we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, free from pain, and reunited with loved ones who went before him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire those who were blessed to know and love him.
“To live in the hearts of those we love is never to die.”
