Ms. Delores Shannon, affectionally known as “Dixie” or “Dee” was born on September 18, 1958, to the late Helen Riddle and Thomas Lester Shannon. She was the third of five children.
She lived in Miami Florida and attended Frank C. Martin Elementary, Richmond Junior High and Miami Killian Senior High School. She graduated in the Class of 1976. She attended Lindsey Hopkins Technical College and later was employed by the Miami-Dade Zoological Park and Gardens as an Assistant Manager. She also had work experience with Burdines Department Store (currently known as Macy’s Department Store).
Delores spent most of her adult life in Miami, Florida where she reared her four daughters. She attended Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church and the National Church of God in Florida City until she moved to Daytona Beach, Florida. While living in Daytona Beach, she attended New Heart Ministries until she was no longer able to attend.
Delores had a deep and selfless love for her family and others. This was demonstrated by her unconditional love for her entire family. Without a thought, she quickly extended her hand to assist her sisters with nurturing and rearing their children. She cared for her mother until her death. She even extended her helpful hands to assist her neighbors by running errands, personal care and any other assistance needed. She had a servant heart and love that cannot be measured.
She not only exemplified inner beauty by being kind and having a nurturing personality, but she was known for her “well put together style”. Her make-up, hair, clothing and not to mention her accessories which always coordinated, a style that has been emulated by her daughters and granddaughters.
On Sunday, March 27, 2022, while being in the company of her children, God called her peacefully home to be with him.
She is preceded in death by her two sisters Valerie Shannon Davis and Sheila Shannon Rivers.
